Hoffenheim nets record fee for Bazoumana Touré
Hoffenheim announced on July 5 2026 that 20‑year‑old winger Bazoumana Touré has moved to Newcastle United. The transfer fee is €50 million plus up to €2 million in bonuses, making it the most expensive sale in the club’s history.
Why is the deal historic?
The Ivorian arrived from Hammarby IF in February 2025 and became a key player in just a year and a half. In 43 Bundesliga appearances he scored five goals and provided 15 assists. His departure eclipses Joelinton’s 2020 move for €43.5 million. Hoffenheim currently sits 5th in the Bundesliga with 61 points, 18 wins, 7 draws and 9 losses, having scored 65 goals and conceded 52 (+13 goal difference). The team trails league leaders Bayern Munich by 28 points.
What does the management say?
Sport director Andreas Schicker says Touré’s development has been “extraordinary” and credits head coach Christian Ilzer’s staff. He adds that the club’s DNA is to nurture talent and enable moves to elite clubs. Schicker noted that they would have liked to keep Touré, but the club’s model dictates otherwise.
How does the player react?
Touré said his farewell was emotional: “TSG felt like a family to me. I thank my teammates, coaches and the fans from the bottom of my heart.” He stressed that he looks forward to the Premier League challenge, yet Hoffenheim will always hold a special place in his heart. During the ongoing World Cup he faced Germany with Ivory Coast (1‑2).
What’s next for Hoffenheim?
The record transfer boosts Hoffenheim’s finances and opens space for new signings. At the same time, a gap remains on the left wing that coach Christian Ilzer must fill this summer. The club plans to invest the money in youth development to continue its upward trajectory. Fans can expect fresh talent to wear the shirt in the upcoming transfer window.
