FC Augsburg and TSG Hoffenheim drew 2:2 at the start of the 29th Bundesliga matchday. All four goals were scored in the first half. Manuel Baum made a change to his starting lineup compared to the 1:1 draw in Hamburg, with Jeffrey Gouweleeuw returning from injury and replacing the yellow-carded Keven Schlotterbeck in defense. The FCA started actively and put pressure on the Hoffenheim guests early on. In the 11th minute, this engaged start was rewarded: Alexis Claude-Maurice held the ball strongly in the center, started a dribble, and finally shot from around 18 meters: His powerful, flat shot landed in the left lower corner and meant the 1:0 lead. Hoffenheim searched for an answer, but the Red-White-Red remained on the ball – and scored only three minutes later. In the 14th minute, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw hit a long ball from his own half precisely into the penalty area. Michael Gregoritsch took the pass skillfully and didn't hesitate: From around 20 meters, he shot directly and hit precisely into the right lower corner: Double strike. In the further course, Hoffenheim found better into the game and approached the opponent's penalty area more and more frequently. So, the FCA had to accept the equalizer in the 35th minute. After a Hoffenheimer corner, Robin Hranáč had a lot of space in the center and headed the half-high ball into the Augsburg goal. The guests also remained dangerous after their goal. In the 42nd minute, Bazoumana Touré appeared from a sharp angle in the penalty area. His shot surprised Finn Dahmen and sprang over the inside post to the 2:2 equalizer. So, it went into the halftime break. After the change of sides, the game remained intense. The teams fought for every ball, but no clear advantages could be achieved – even if it always went forward. While the Hoffenheimer, among other things, recorded a free kick from a promising position (57.), a good chance belonged to the Red-White-Red to the substituted Rodrigo Ribeiro, whose shot in the penalty area at least earned a corner (69.). In the further course, it became increasingly hectic, making it difficult for both teams to control their game over longer periods. In the final phase, the FCA was offered the great opportunity to decide the game in their favor. Anton Kade was fouled in the penalty area, referee Daniel Schlager correctly pointed to the spot. Alexis Claude-Maurice took responsibility, but shot the penalty over the bar (84.). So, it remained a goalless second half and a point-sharing in the WWK ARENA.
