Hoffenheim's Europa League opener away to OFI Crete on Thursday was preceded by organisational mishaps. The team departed late from Karlsruhe airport on Wednesday, forcing a postponement of their pre-match press conference on the Greek island by about 70 minutes.

Head coach Christian Ilzer and midfielder Wouter Burger were scheduled to face the media. Broadcasts of the event carried neither picture nor sound from them. The club later confirmed Ilzer has all travelling players at his disposal. “Ilzer has all the players who travelled to Greece at his disposal,” the coach said.

The disrupted preparations come as Hoffenheim sit 13th in the Bundesliga with three points from three matches. Their recent form reads two wins and three defeats from the last five outings. Next up is a trip to 15th-placed SC Paderborn 07 on Sunday.
