Hoffenheim loses 0-1 to St. Pauli - the winning streak of eight home wins is broken. The TSG Hoffenheim hosted FC St. Pauli with an impressive series of eight consecutive home wins. After three defeats at the beginning of the season, the Kraichgauer had developed into a real home power. The Hamburg team, on the other hand, had only collected two points in eleven away games and were still without a win on the road. Hoffenheim's coach Christian Ilzer relied on the same starting lineup for the third time in a row, while Alexander Blessin at St. Pauli relied on Mathias Pereira Lage in the attack and James Sands in midfield. The Hoffenheim team started strongly and created good chances early on. As early as the 4th minute, Fisnik Asllani tested St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj with a sharp shot. Shortly after, Andrej Kramarić had the great chance to take the lead, as he appeared free in front of Vasilj, but the guest goalkeeper parried both his chip and Grischa Prömel's follow-up shot brilliantly. Despite the clear field superiority of the hosts - Hoffenheim had 61 percent ball possession - St. Pauli remained dangerous. In the stoppage time of the first half, the 1-0 goal for the Hanseatic team fell surprisingly: Manolis Saliakas crossed precisely from the right, and Pereira Lage headed in unchallenged at the second post. After the break, Hoffenheim increased the pressure further. Coach Ilzer brought in Alexander Prass for Wouter Burger in the 62nd minute and later also Tim Lemperle for Kramarić to liven up the offense. The greatest chance for the equalizer had Ozan Kabak, whose header in the 81st minute only hit the crossbar. St. Pauli defended with great effort and relied on counterattacks. The Hamburg team threw themselves into every shot and could rely on their outstanding goalkeeper Vasilj, who also defused a header from Asllani in the 90.+2 minute. In the end, the Kiezkicker managed to hold the narrow lead and celebrated their first away win of the season. The goalkeeper of FC St. Pauli was the outstanding man on the pitch. Nikola Vasilj prevented numerous great chances for the Hoffenheim team and made a total of nine saves. Especially in the initial phase, he shone with a double save against Kramarić and Prömel. According to statistics, Vasilj even prevented two more goals than expected - his five saves exceeded the expected value of three. The Bosnian was the key to the away win for the Hamburg team and was deservedly voted Man of the Match. The TSG Hoffenheim now has to prepare for the next matchday and hopes for a better performance. The question is whether the Kraichgauer can find their home power again. The answer will only be seen in the next games.
